Columbus, Ohio ENT Performing Low Radiation CAT Scans To Diagnose Sinus Problems
The first step in dealing with chronic sinusitis is to diagnose the problem. Performing a computed tomography (CT) allows a physician to gain the most detailed anatomic information about the sinus region. This technology, also known as a “CAT Scan,” is safe, convenient, and cost-effective. Our practice began offering this service in 2008 and was the first practice in Columbus, Ohio to do so. We also offer the latest advancement in this technology, known as Cone Beam CAT Scanning (CBCT). We have our own scanner on-premises, which means that patients do not have to leave our office to go to another facility to perform the scan. The office-based scan also provides significant cost savings as compared to one performed at a hospital.

X-ray radiation has been linked to developing various cancers later in life. This is especially problematic for those with sinus problems that often require frequent scans. By implementing CBCT, our office is able to view the sinus passageways while minimizing the amount of radiation. Dosing is routinely 95% less than dosing at a traditional Cat Scan at the hospital or imaging center. This greatly reduces the risk to the patient. Dr. Boris Karanfilov was the country’s first ENT specialist to conduct research regarding the use of CBCT. He also takes pride in the level of care which he provides to his patients. After the completion of a CAT scan, he will go over the results with you and make sure you fully understand all of your treatment options.
Our office also is able to provide CBCT as a service for physicians who need to obtain a CAT scan of a sinus as well as for dental evaluations. Patients can often be worked into our schedule quickly. In order to learn about these services, contact us online or by telephone today.
