Columbus ENT For Ear Fullness & Other Ear Problems
Ear problems such as pain, pressure, and the feeling of fullness are very common. These symptoms can be related to infections, inflammation, and issues with the anatomy of the Eustachian tube. Eustachian Tube Dysfunction, or ETD, can be treated with a new, FDA approved, simple office procedure. Dr. Boris Karanfilov is a Columbus ENT who treats ETD through the use of Eustachian Tube Balloon Dilation. This procedure can often result in fast symptom relief and patients can quickly return to their normal routine. Contact us online or by telephone today to schedule your initial appointment.

Ear pain and discomfort can be caused by Eustachian tube dysfunction (also known as “ETD”). The Eustachian tube is what links the back of the nose to the middle of the ear. “Dysfunction” occurs when this tube fails to properly ventilate the ear and when it is not draining properly. These issues often arise when the tube is swollen or is not opening and closing properly. Common symptoms of ETD include:
- Pain in the ear
- Pressure in the ear
- A feeling of “fullness” in the ear
- Ringing in the ears (also known as tinnitus)
- Dizziness
- Recurring ear infections
Treating these problems often involves dilating (opening) the Eustachian tube.

The types of problems described above can often be treated through Eustachian Tube Balloon Dilation. This is the only minimally invasive, FDA-approved method for treating ETD. This process involves using a catheter to insert a small balloon through the nose into the Eustachian tube. The balloon is then inflated, creating a larger pathway for the tube to ventilate and function normally. The balloon is then deflated and removed. Most patients who receive this treatment can return to their normal activities within a day.
